Health Insurance

Health Insurance Requirements

European Citizens

As a citizen of the European Union (EU), the Swiss Confederation (SC) or the European Economic States (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland) your medical expenses are covered in France thanks to the Social Security of your country. You need to get the form E 101 «Certificate concerning the applicable legislation "certifying that you are covered by the Health Assurance of your country. This form will be issued by the competent institution of the State in which you come from. Addresses and phone numbers of such institutions are available on the site of GLEISS, rubric “Documents” and then "The health insurance organisms”.

Non European Citizens

Health insurance covering reimbursement of medical expenses is mandatory. The French Embassy requires non-European citizens to have proof of health insurance. Your health insurance plan needs to at least provide a certain amount worth of coverage for you in France. You must provide a letter of coverage to the embassy that states that you are covered at least this amount in France. Some students are eligible for student coverage under the French national health plan (Sécurité Sociale).

“Mutuelle”

A complementary health insurance is not compulsory but strongly recommended. This is a student insurance programme costing from 125 to 250 Euros per year depending on the coverage offered (including civil liability and accident). Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion Service
